NEEMO 4 Topside Report #2: Hurricane Isadore - Bill Todd: Monday, September 23, 2002
With the threat of Hurricane Isadore behind us in Key Largo, preparations have been underway since Saturday to return the habitat to "live-aboard" status and get the mission underway. The folks at NURC had a few unexpected situations to deal with after the hurricane preparation work was undone, but they have been reviewed and corrected by the NURC staff and the top Aquarius safety advisor, and the mission has been given a "go." After reviewing the situation, we are also confident that no safety issues exist or have been compromised and we are in agreement that the mission should begin today if possible.

Due to the delays with weather, the mission will only be five days in duration. The crew will have "splash up" on Friday so that the folks at NURC can perform their normal post-mission activities and turn the habitat around for the previously scheduled October mission.

We expect to "splash" the aquanauts around 4:00 EST today. They will make an 1.5-hour dive before settling into the habitat. They will then receive a habitat safety briefing, have dinner, and then probably hold a PAO Event with the Associated Press, Space.com, and Florida Today. The approval for that event will not come until later today.
