Kea Foreman: Day 7: Sunday, May 25, 2003
This being my first mission actually living inside Aquarius, I have no base from which to gauge a "typical" mission day. My guess would be that the ones we have seen so far would fall into that category. A few minor issues to deal with from time to time, but on the whole, we spend most of our time simply running through daily checklists and checking on the aquanaut research teams. We're pretty strict with them and they are very good about following all the rules. It occurred to me that parents would have so much less to worry about if they were able to invoke the same kind of restrictions. Any time anyone leaves Aquarius or returns they have to let us know and it's logged in the mission book. When they go out to a research site, we have stations set up where they can refill their scuba tanks. We can also talk with them via a special radio, or underwater hailer. They check in whenever they refill, always within two hours, which they must do if they want to continue working. At some point today, I realized I was spending far too much time looking at the food supply. I wasn't really hungry, but it just seemed to keep calling me. Luckily, most everyone likes spicy food. I must have pampered my taste buds, because even the bland food seems plenty spicy enough to me. The rest of the crew should be happy. They've been trying to get rid of the Turkey Tetrazini for months. (You're welcome, guys.) I look forward to working out in the water each day, but it IS starting to get a bit chilly. Even now, ten days doesn't seem like such a long time to be saturated. We'll see if I feel the same way after decompression. I'm just so excited to be here, I can't imagine that it would ever get boring! |
