Dr. Gina Virgilio
Naval Special Warfare Center
Basic Underwater Demolition/Seal Training (BUD/S)
San Diego, CA

My love for the ocean and diving started at a young age growing up on the beaches of southern California and spending summers sailing the Pacific aboard my family's sailboat. It wasn't until after I pursued my other passion, medicine, that I realized I could combine these two early loves. After attending medical school at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and completing a General Surgery Internship in San Diego, I became a Diving Medical Officer in the Navy. Being a DMO is a rewarding and engaging adventure in all aspects. My permanent duty station is back home in San Diego at the Naval Special Warfare Center or Basic Underwater Demolition/Seal Training (BUD/S). I thoroughly look forward to being a part of the upcoming mission and continuing the relationship between Navy DMO's and this unique NOAA habitat.
