Garrett Reisman
Astronaut
National Aeronautics and Space Administration/Johnson Space Center
Houston TX

Garrett grew up in Parsippany, New Jersey and has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineer from the California Institute of Technology. His job as an Astronaut varies a lot from day-to-day and can include many different training events such as flying, simulator exercises, physical training and classroom exercises. He also spends a lot of time working on developing new checklists for the Space Shuttle. When he's not in meetings about the checklists, he is often working on them on his computer. The most exciting thing about his job is flying T-38 jet airplanes, practicing spacewalks in a huge pool, and living on the bottom of the sea!

Garrett became interested in the oceans because he has always loved SCUBA diving, ocean kayaking and surfing, and just being around the ocean. The coolest thing he ever saw underwater would probably be a giant sea turtle. The scariest and funniest-looking thing he ever saw underwater was Clay Anderson.

For this mission, Garrett is responsible for the communications experiment and the underwater photography. He is most looking forward to becoming one with the ocean and the fish!

Garrett's recreational interests include flying, skiing and snowboarding, rock climbing, mountaineering, canyoneering, and SCUBA diving. He is also an FAA Certified Flight Instructor.
