| Journal 3- Carla Zilberberg:
Day 2: Tuesday, August 12, 2003
Today was another awesome day at work! We got a lot done! Dale and I went down to 100 feet to finish surveying the BOA lines. On our way to one of the fill stations we saw a huge grouper! We also saw a stingray and lots of huge jacks! Spending over 7 hours on the reef allows you to see so much! It is great to be able to observe all the fish behavior and see the tiniest creatures on the reef that usually we only see in underwater books. Two days in the habitat and this place really feels like home! The best
showing on our first dive was the sponge spawning. There is a sponge called
Xestospongia (the giant barrel sponge) that looks like a volcano. They
were all spawning, with their eggs and sperm released into the water like
volcanoes blowing lava! An amazing sight!!! |
