Phillip Dean Hunt, M.D.
F.A.C.E.P Captain, Medical Corps

Born 13 Mar 1943 in Bonne Terre, Southeastern Missouri, Captain Hunt is currently assigned as Senior Undersea Medical Officer at Commander Submarine Group 9, Bangor, WA.

A graduate of Central Methodist College, Fayette, Missouri, he received his medical training at the University of Missouri in 1968. He completed a rotating internship at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, going on to submarine medical officer training at the School of Submarine Medicine (now NUMI) in December, 1969. He was subsequently assigned as ship's medical officer of the USS BENJAMIN FRANKLIN (SSBN 640 B) in January, 1970, after which he returned to Submarine Base Dispensary at SUBASE Pearl Harbor. LCDR Hunt completed his first active duty period with a seven-month assignment as COMSUBRON FIFTEEN REP Medical Officer.

After returning to civilian life, Dr. Hunt completed one year of Internal Medicine residency at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, AZ in July 1974. He took a year's sabbatical as full-time emergency physician at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix before completing two years of Pediatric residency in the Phoenix Hospitals Affiliated Pediatric Program in 1977. He then completed two years of pediatrics/family practice in Baker, Oregon before returning to full-time Emergency Medicine practice in Phoenix, AZ in 1979. During the next eleven years, he remained in full-time Emergency Medicine with a multi-hospital emergency medicine group, eight of which as Department Head.

In September, 1990, CDR(sel) Hunt returned to active duty as a research undersea medical officer at Naval Health Research Center, San Diego, remaining there until June 1992 when he was transferred to Commander, Submarine Development Group 1. While at CSDG-1, he made one deployment aboard USS PARCHE (SSN 683) and acted as Senior Undersea Medical Officer until October 1995. His next assignment was as U. S. Navy Exchange Medical Officer at the Institute of Naval Medicine, Alverstoke, England. CAPT Hunt returned to the States in October, 1998 to a staff faculty physician assignment in the Emergency Medicine Department, Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, where he was assigned as Clinical Division Head until his transfer to Commander Submarine Group 9 as senior Undersea Medical Officer in June, 2000.

CAPT Hunt has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medical (second award), Navy Commendation Medal (second award), the Presidential Unit Citation, and numerous unit, service, and campaign awards including the Navy Expeditionary Medal, Navy Unit Citation, and Meritorious Unit Commendation
