Growing up in Florida, I have always been curious about the oceans and the impact that humans have on them. A lifetime amidst wetlands and surrounded by ocean inspired my study of physical oceanography to understand and engage ever more pressing environmental problems in coral reef systems and other threatened aquatic ecosystems.

My appreciation and concern for the environment led me to study environmental engineering at the University of Florida. In addition to my studies, I sought out research experience, became certified in SCUBA, and spent summers diving and learning about coral reefs in the Florida Keys. Currently, I am pursuing a doctoral degree in the Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology program at Stanford University. I am interested in exploring the links between physical forcing and biological response in the environment.

I am thrilled to have the chance to spend 10 days living under water in the Aquarius habitat. It is especially satisfying to realize that this research may ultimately inform management decisions protecting the environment that in the beginning inspired me.
