John W. Murray MD, FAAFP

Dr. John Murray is currently assigned to the Naval Sea Systems Command, as a Diving Medical Officer for the Supervisor of Salvage and Diving. Board Certified in Family Practice and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice, he completed his residency at Naval Hospital Pensacola in 1984. He has an added certification in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine in 1999. As a Family Physician, he has served as a staff physician at Naval Hospital Jacksonville from 1984 - 1987 and at National Naval Medical Center Bethesda from 2000 - 2003. CAPT Murray completed his Qualified Navy Scuba Diver and also Undersea Medical Officer training in 1980, and has subsequently served as an Undersea Medical Officer at Explosive Ordnance Group One in Hawaii from 1980 - 1982. He served as Division Officer and Department Head at the Naval Undersea Medical Institute, Groton Connecticut from 1987 -1990, completed his Qualified Navy Saturation Diver in 1990 and subsequently served as Senior Medical Officer at Submarine Development Group One in San Diego, California from 1990 - 1994. CAPT Murray served as the Medical Officer for the Commander Submarine Force U.S. Pacific Fleet from 1994 - 1997, and as Director for Undersea Medicine and Radiation Health from 1997 - 2000. His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Award with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars.
