U.S. Army
Hello there.
I am TJ Creamer — full name: Timothy John Creamer, but I only ever heard that when my Mother was upset with me.
I grew up in a military family. Dad was an Army officer, and I have had the blessing of being able to serve my country similarly. As a result of this strong association with the Army, I have had the pleasure of moving all over the globe — a grand total of 23 moves before getting to Houston.
The majority of my schooling was in Maryland. I went to high school in Forrestville, MD, and then graduated from Loyola College in Baltimore, MD, with a degree in Chemistry. From there, I went into the Army, and became an aviator, flying helicopters. After a couple of tactical tours of duty with the Army, I received my Masters degree in physics from MIT.
I thoroughly enjoy playing competitive tennis, especially with our two sons, biking, speaking German, studying to speak Russian, travel, reading, and always learning.
In 1998, I was fortunate to receive an invitation to join the Astronaut Office of NASA, after working there for three years as a support engineer. Since becoming an astronaut, I have held a variety of technical support jobs, to include being the information technologies specialist for the International Space Station network and computers, the Crew Support Astronaut supporting Expedition 3, and now as a Robotics Branch member.
Of all the places I’ve lived, all have been above ground. As such, I am looking most tremendously forward to being a part of NEEMO 11. The challenges and (yet again) the learning opportunities promise to be simply wonderful. I am truly excited to be living and working under water both in and out of the Aquarius habitat, and to be able to contribute to the success of our crew’s mission. The environment, challenges, and lessons to be learned will all support NASA’s goals for our future exploration of the Moon, Mars and beyond. It is a true blessing to be able to contribute to our Nation’s vision, and to be able to have the family and friends who are so excited about this opportunity and future as well.
