Try a Little Pressure Math

Underwater pressure is a serious issue for the scientists working in Aquarius. They remain under pressure for several days while they carry out their experiments. Below are some practice problems dealing with underwater pressure. Give ’em a shot and then check your answers.

• Aquarius sits on the ocean floor at a depth of about 60 feet. Calculate the absolute pressure at this depth.
• A researcher working from Aquarius is collecting samples from the Conch Reef area. This researcher recently purchased new dive equipment and is wondering if his depth gauge is functioning correctly. If he’s working at a pressure of 23.14 psi, what should his depth gauge read?
