Pressure Math Answers
- We know that seawater exerts a force of 14.7 psi for every 33 feet, so we can calculate that one foot of seawater exerts a pressure of .445 pounds per foot of depth (14.7/33 = .445). Then, we simply multiply .445 by 60 feet of depth to get a pressure of 26.7 pounds of pressure. To calculate absolute pressure we need to add 14.7 pounds to that answer. So the average pressure at 60 feet is 41.4 pounds per square inch.
- We know that seawater exerts a pressure of .445 pounds per foot of depth. By dividing 23.14 psi by .445 pounds, our diver’s depth gauge should read 52 feet. (Remember since this is gauge pressure we don’t add an additional 14.7 psi when solving.
