| "I
have found the experience of balancing family and academic studies both
challenging and rewarding. Over the last two years my husband has deployed
twice to Iraq, leaving me alone to care for our two children and continue
as a full time student. This would have been near impossible without the
support and understanding I received from my professors and fellow students
at UNCW. My ceramic work is strongly influenced by the pottery of the Sung Dynasty and early Japanese folk pottery. I find inspiration in the works of potters Shoji Hamada, Phil Rogers, Elsbeth S. Woody and Mark Hewitt. The making part of ceramics for me is purely a selfish experience. I love every step involved in the process: the making of the clay and glazes, throwing and building the pots, and the glazing and firing of the pieces. Ultimately the greatest satisfaction I get from my finished work is through others enjoyment of it."
