Novelist Clyde Edgerton Presents Reading/Music

WILMINGTON, NC ­ Clyde Edgerton, distinguished visiting professor in creative writing at UNCW, will present a reading with musical interludes at 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 21, in Kenan Auditorium, followed by a reception and book signing. This event, sponsored by The King's Road Writers Series, is free and open to the public.

A piano player and member of The Tarwater Band, Edgerton will include music interspersed with readings from his novels The Floatplane Notebooks; Killer Diller; In Memory of Junior; Where Trouble Sleeps and his forthcoming novel tentatively titled Fat From Shame, which is a sequel to Killer Diller.

"Clyde is a first-class educator," said Mark Cox, chair of the UNCW Creative Writing Department. "The students in his novel-writing workshops and a short story courses benefit from a wealth of writing and publishing experience, including adapting novels for film and stage ­ which he did with Raney, Walking Across Egypt and The Floatplane Notebooks."

Edgerton holds a Ph.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill where he also taught literature and creative writing.
