Let's Talk! UNCW & You hosted by Betty Ann Sanders airs noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 and 7-8 p.m. Friday, March 3 and 7-8 p.m. Monday, March 6 on TLN, Time Warner Cable Channel 5 and 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, Saturday, March 4 and Monday, March 6 on Charter Cable, Channel 4 serving Topsail, North Topsail, Surf City and Hampstead).



Sports Corner--Joe Browning and Al Monteith talk about the various sports campus UNCW offers in the summer including swimming, tennis, volleyball, basketball and soccer. For more information call the Athletic Office or see their web page.

Wilmington Fire Department--Captain Reggie Sykes and Captain Frank Blackley outline the day to day duties of the fire department including arson investigations, fire inspections, pre-building plan review, children's fire safety educational programs and home inspections.

Money Talks-- Louis H. Rogers III , Small Business & Technology Development Center, at UNCW and Wes Beckner of B B & T Bank discuss the "Partnership For Economic Inclusion" outreach program.

Tastefully Yours--Mark Copenhaver, chef at the Rialto Restaurant, demonstrates Flower Petal Pasta--cannelloni with 3 cheese almond filling with a Romesco sauce.

Music-- Benjy Haywood, who played with the Guy Lombardo Band for four years, plays Memories for Cats, The Entertainer from The Sting and the Chorus Line theme song.

Faculty Focus--Karen Thompson of UNCW's Career Services is also a business etiquette consultant. To prepare students for the business world, she teaches and demonstrates the use and placement of each plate, glass and utensil used during a formal meal.

Citizen Science Programs--Merrill Holden of Wild Birds Unlimited talks about programs that are partnerships between the public and professional scientists around the world. Highlighted is the Cornell University Bird Count which allows the public to observe birds in their area and then report the data via a website.

Carolina's Heritage Tourism Program-- Herb Harris, Jackie Peoples and Kenny Davis discuss a new program centering on the contributions of African Americans to Wilmington's heritage. A self-guided walking tour will soon be available.

Student Focus-- Kte Bruce, director of UNCW's Honors Program, a four- year program for the intellectually gifted, is joined by Bob Weedon and Jean McNeil of Animal Control. Three UNCW Honors students developed a Volunteer Training Manual for Animal Control allowing them to attract and train new volunteers in the areas of animal care, administrative aid, community outreach and adoption counseling.
