UNCW Hosts Lecture on Physics and the Brain

WILMINGTON, NC -- Dr. Peter Beckmann, professor of physics at Bryn Mawr College and chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Delaware, will present "Physics, Biology, Your Brain and Everything Else" at 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, in UNCW's King Hall Auditorium.

Beckmann, an expert on the study of structure and motion in solids at the atomic and molecular level, was born in British Columbia, Canada. He received his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from the University of British Columbia, and joined the Physics Department at Bryn Mawr College in 1977. In 1996, he also became a research professor at the University of Delaware in Newark.

Beckmann will also lecture on "Physics: The Art of Storytelling" at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 11, in DeLoach Hall, Room 212.

Both lectures, which are free and open to the public, are sponsored by the UNCW Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography.
