Pianist Valerie Zamora to Appear in Kenan Auditorium

Thursday, March 30, 2000

The UNCW Department of Music will present pianist Valerie Zamora at 8 p.m., Monday, April 10, in a special addition to the annual Artist Recital Series. The concert will take place in Kenan Auditorium on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. The program will include works of Mozart, Liszt, Chopin, Brahms, and the North Carolina composer Pamela St. John, who has emerged as one of Ms. Zamora's specialties.

Ms. Zamora, following her studies at prestigious conservatories in the U.S. and abroad, has been an active concert performer and the recipient of numerous scholarships and grants from universities and festivals, including a North Carolina Emerging Artist Grant. She was praised by the French Journal de Morges as "a pianist full of temperament."

Ms. Zamora is a highly unusual pianist: she is nearly deaf. Her concert is both a musical performance and an attempt to raise awareness and respect for people with disabilities.

Admission to the concert is $10, $5 for senior citizens and students. For more program information, contact the UNCW music department at 910/962-3390.
