WILMINGTON, NC -- Dr. Otis L. Graham, distinguished visiting professor in history at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, was selected as the Fulbright Bologna Chair in Italy for spring 2001. He will lecture in the Department of Politics, Institutions and History at the University of Bologna.

In appointing Graham, the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board recognized his "impressive academic accomplishments." Graham, a modern U.S. historian, is the author of 16 books and anthologies on 20th-century history. While in Italy, he plans to teach about U.S. political institutions, environmentalism and immigration. Graham joined UNCW's faculty in 1994 and also teaches in the Cameron School of Business.

The Fulbright Program, America's flagship educational exchange program, is sponsored by the U.S. Information Agency, an independent foreign affairs agency within the executive branch of the U.S. government. Established in 1946 under Congressional legislation by Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the program is designed "to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries."
