Sports Corner--Joe Browning and Grant Robins, UNCW's men's golf
coach, discuss the 10-member golf team which includes three
all-conference players. The team practices at area golf clubs
including Cape Fear Country Club, Porter's Neck, Landfall, Pine
Valley and Echo Farms.
Social Security Symposium--Dr. Ellie Covan, director of UNCW's
gerontology certificate program, is joined by Terry Parker,
management development program specialist with Wilmington's Social
Security office. They discuss the upcoming symposium from 8:30 a.m.
to 1 p.m., May 10 at Dobo Hall, UNCW. Free and open to the public,

Green Space Bond Issue -- UNCW Chancellor James R. Leutze discusses
the disappearing tree cover and the degradation of our local water
supply. Citing a recent study on pollution in New Hanover County
creeks due to impervious surfaces, Chancellor Leutze urges the
public to support the upcoming $45 million bond issue.
Bikers--Chandler Snyder, James Cooper and Jennifer Wenger, members
of the bicycle advocacy group, SCAT, discuss biking safety and
equipment. UNCW's bike co-op, located at the UNCW police station,
is open from 2-5 p.m, Fridays and helps with bicycle repairs,
trades and even building.
Wilmington Regional Film Commission--Johnny Griffin discusses his
job of selling the region to the film industry and then serving as
a liaison once a film production has located here. He highlights
current productions in Wilmington and Southport and talks about the
fierce competition for and economic impact of the film
industry.
Money Talks--Louis H. Rogers, Small Business and Technology
Development Cente, r is joined by local attorney, Lawrence Craige.
They discuss the critical aspects of leases and contracts.
Faculty and Student Focus--Dr. John Bennett, professor of health
and physical education and recent recipient of the UNC Award for
Excellence in Teaching, is joined by members of his dance class,
who perform a merengue dance and the Cirandaa, a northern Brazilian
circle dance.
Tastefully Yours--Chef Ruben Holguin of Hiro's Japanese Steak
House, demonstrates how to skin and debone a whole chicken to use
the meat in stir fry, shish kabob or other dishes.
Kaleidoscope--Mimi Cunningham discusses UNCW's upcoming graduation
at 10 a.m. on May 13 which will be broadcast live on UNCW-TV, TW
cable channel 5. The graduating class will be the largest ever with
1360 graduates. She also discusses the new adult AdventureQuest
program offered through UNCW's Division for Public Service and
Extended Education.
