UNCW POLITICAL SCIENCE PROFESSOR WINS AWARD

WILMINGTON, NC -- Dr. Thomas Barth, associate professor of political science at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, received the Laverne Burchfield Award from the Public Administration Review at the American Society for Public Administration conference held April 1 in San Diego, Calif.

This national award, which honors Laverne Burchfield, managing editor of the Public Administration Review from 1943-58, is given annually for the best book review published by the journal. Barth was leader of a team which reviewed eight of the major handbooks about public administration. The award-winning review "Public Administration Handbooks: Why, How and Who" appeared in the journal's November/December 1999 edition. Barth shared the award with co-author Dr. Mark T. Green, assistant professor in the Graduate School of Public Affairs, University of Colorado at Denver.
