WILMINGTON, NC -- Jay Dowd has been named assistant vice chancellor for development in the Division of University Advancement at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Beginning on campus June 5, Dowd will work closely with all the primary fundraisers as well as the operations that support them, including research, annual giving, and advancement services.

Dowd has served as vice president for institutional advancement at Methodist College in Fayetteville, N.C., since 1995. In that role, he supervised the offices of development, alumni affairs, parents programs, public relations and publications, student media, and web site management. During his tenure, he led Methodist through a three-year capital campaign, surpassing a $6.5 million goal by raising more than $8 million.

"We are looking forward to having someone of Jay's experience and familiarity with our region join the university's senior fundraising management team," said Patton McDowell, vice chancellor for university advancement. "He brings a wide range of professional skills to UNCW and will be a great asset as we implement a more comprehensive fundraising plan to take our university to the next level."

Dowd, a native of Bennettsville, S.C., received his B.A. in History from Winthrop University and a Master of Education from the University of South Carolina in Columbia with a concentration in higher education administration. He currently serves as president for the Fayetteville chapter of the University of South Carolina Alumni Association. Dowd has also been active in the Cumberland County United Way, Kiwanis Club of Cape Fear, and the Fayetteville Area Chamber of Commerce.
