WILMINGTON, NC -- The UNCW women's ultimate Frisbee team qualified for the Ultimate Players Association College National Championships scheduled for Friday through Sunday May 26-28 in Boise, Idaho.

The 14-member team called Seaweed is currently ranked first in the country and has a 37-3 record. Season highlights include reaching the finals of all seven tournaments entered and winning four of them, including the Southeast Regional Championship in April where the team defeated the University of Georgia. UNCW's women's ultimate Frisbee team won national titles in 1992 and 1996.

"We have worked hard all year," said Nikki Miani, team captain. "Having played in the most competitive tournaments available, we feel we have what it takes to bring another national championship to UNCW."

The club is raising $8,000 to fund travel to the college national championships in Idaho. To date, the team has raised approximately $4,000.

As one of 13 sport clubs at UNCW, the women's ultimate Frisbee team has limited funding. A sport club is a recognized student organization that is student led and student initiated. The clubs may be recreational, instructional or competitive in nature but are not NCAA athletic teams or intramurals.

Anyone interested in making a donation to the team should contact Jean Ostrander, sports club adviser, at 910/962-7393 or Nikki Miani, Seaweed captain, at 910/799-5706.
