Wilmington - The University of North Carolina at Wilmington will welcome Jeff D. Etheridge, Jr., to its board of trustees at the board's quarterly meeting July 20-21 in New Bern. He was appointed by the UNC Board of Governors to a three-year term expiring in 2003.

Etheridge is currently regional president, headquartered in Whiteville, for BB&T Corporation. Formerly, he was executive vice president with United Carolina Bancshares. After attending East Carolina University, Etheridge earned his bachelor's degree in business administration at Campbell University and is a graduate of the Executive Program at UNC-Chapel Hill. He has been an instructor at both UNC-Chapel Hill's North Carolina School of Banking and the American Institute of Banking and Management Development.

Active in his community, Etheridge has served on the Southeastern Community College Foundation Board of Trustees, the Executive Board of the Cape Fear Council of Boy Scouts of America, and the Boards of Directors for the Columbus County Committee of 100 and the North Carolina Museum of Forestry.

Etheridge's seat on the UNCW Board of Trustees was held by Jay M. Robinson, who passed away in April.
