RE: UNCW Back to School Tip Sheet
The University of North Carolina at Wilmington is gearing up for the 2000-2001 academic year with most new students moving into on-campus housing Saturday, Aug 15. The following are events for "Welcome Week 2000" and "Move-in '00" that may be of interest to you:
Saturday, August 12
o "Move-in '00" Approximately 700 volunteers from the university and community will assist nearly 2,200 students (1,555 freshmen) move into residence halls this year. (8 a.m. - 1 p.m.) The best time for coverage for students and families moving
in will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. It is estimated that more than 4,600 people (students and family members) are expected for "Move-in '00."
Sunday, August 13
o Hypnotist Tom DeLuca will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Kenan Auditorium.
Tuesday, August 15
o Beach Blast and Bike to the Beach - Shuttles will depart from the Graham-Hewlett Connector to Wrightsville Beach at 1 p.m.
Wednesday, August 16
o First day of classes
Thursday, August 17
o Concert on the Commons: The Mike Plume Band will perform at 11:30 a.m. at the University Commons.
Friday, August 18
o Friday Night Live Comedy Show: Well-known comedian David J will perform at
the Hawk's Nest Union Station at 8 p.m.
Saturday, August 19
o Firstserv Service Opportunity - This is the first volunteer opportunity of the year for UNCW freshmen and transfer students. Students will be assisting Family Services After School Enrichment Program, Girls Inc., and Habitat for Humanity. Students will meet at the University Union Living Room at 9 a.m.
Members of the media are welcome to cover any of these events. Performances are free and open to the public.
