WILMINGTON, NC -- A two-day, 12-stop bond issue media blitz Oct. 3 and 4 will bring news of the critical need for the Community College and University Higher Education Bond Issue on the Nov. 7 ballot to citizens across 16 Southeastern North Carolina counties. UNC Wilmington Chancellor James R. Leutze, UNC Pembroke Chancellor Allen Coats Meadors, and Fayetteville State University Chancellor Willis B. McLeod will join 13 area community college presidents on a bus tour looping the region from Morehead City to Hamlet and wrapping up in Wilmington.UNC President Molly Broad will ride the bus and participate in the first three stops on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Chair of State Board of Community Colleges Dr. Herman Porter will be at the first stop in Morehead City. N.C. Community College President Martin Lancaster will attend the tour for the wrap-up rally at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Schwartz Center at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington.

The 16 counties targeted in this bond issue media blitz are Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Cumberland, Duplin, Hoke, Montgomery, Moore, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, and Scotland.

Tuesday, Oct. 3
8-9 a.m., Morehead City ñ Breakfast event at the Crystal Coast Civic Center on the campus of Carteret Community College. There is a large sign on Arendell Street (US 70) and one on the civic center. Look for a table with nametags in the lobby. Staff will direct people to the two quads reserved for the breakfast. The caterer will start serving at 7:45 (for the early birds). 10:15-10:45 a.m., Jacksonville -- James L. Henderson Jr. Administration Building, Board Room, Coastal Carolina CC, 444 Western Boulevard (Park in circular drive) (Hosts -- Coastal Carolina CC, UNCW)
12-1:30, Kenansville -- Strickland Student Center, campus of James Sprunt Community College (Hosts -- James Sprunt CC, UNCW)
3-4 p.m., Fayetteville -- Fayetteville Technical Community College, Student Center Multi-purpose Room. Follow State Highway 24 through Clinton; stay on Highway 24 which becomes Grove Street and then becomes Rowan Street. Rowan Street dead ends into Bragg Boulevard. Turn right onto Bragg Boulevard. Follow past numerous restaurants until you see a sign on the right that says turn left to Fayetteville Tech. Go left at Berrington Cross, go through the light, Berrington Cross becomes Devers St. Follow Devers Street, turn right onto FTCC Access Road. Second building on the left is the Student Center -- will see a canopy over walkway. Park in that lot (Hosts -- Fayetteville Technical CC, FSU)
7 p.m., Pinehurst -- Dinner Event at the home of President John R. Dempsey, on the campus of Sandhills Community College, 2200 Airport Road, Pinehurst (Hosts -- Sandhills CC, Montgomery CC, UNCP)
Wednesday, Oct. 4
6:30 a.m., Bus Departs Comfort Inn, Pinehurst, take US 1 South
7:30 a.m., Breakfast Event, Hamlet. Cole Auditorium, Richmond Community College Campus. Take left fork off US 1 South at NC Speedway onto NC 177 South, to Hamlet at US 74 West, go quarter mile to campus and Cole Auditorium. (Hosts -- Richmond CC, UNCP)
9:30 a.m., Laurinburg, brief media stop, steps of main building at Richmond CC Scotland Center at 201 Atkinson Street in downtown Laurinburg, inside if raining. Coming from Hamlet on US 74, take Business US 74 into downtown which becomes Church Street, turn north on Atkinson for 2 blocks. (Richmond CC, Robeson CC, UNCP)
11 a.m. -- Lumberton -- Noon, Trustee Board Room, Robeson Community College, -- Coming from Laurinburg on Highway 74 take I-95 north, go to Robeson Community College exit, Exit 22, cross bridge, go about one quarter mile, it will be on your right. Go through main entrance into the college, at the stop sign, go right then veer to the left. The board room is in the two-story building on the right, the only two-story building on campus. Enter the first set of doors, and the room is on your right. (Robeson CC, UNCP)
12:30-1:30 p.m., Elizabethtown -- Rally will take place in the parking lot behind the Student Services Building on the campus of Bladen Community College, the only two story building on campus, and it has a red roof. Rain site is inside the Student Service Building. Bladen Community College is located on Highway 41 on the outskirts of Dublin. Coming from Robeson Community College, take 211 to Highway 41 and BCC will be on the left side of the road. (Hosts: Bladen CC, UNCP)
2-2:30 p.m., Whiteville -- T Building, room 120, Southeastern Community College. Coming from Elizabethtown, follow US Highway 701 through Clarkton to Whiteville. Just past Holiday Hotel, bear right on 701 Bypass. Go about a mile to Highway 74-76 exit. Follow 74-76 to Union Valley exit, go left across the bridge. Go to the stop sign and make a right onto west 74-76 business. Follow 74-76 about two miles, past the industrial park, and enter the campus on the right. Building T is first building on the right.
