JOURNALIST RUBEN NAVARRETTE TO LECTURE AT UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC -- Ruben Navarrette, Jr., a journalist with the Dallas Morning News, will present "Bienvenido, Welcome to the New America: How Latinos Will Change the New Century" at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 25, in the UNCW Warwick Center Ballroom. The event is part of the university's annual Hispanic-American Heritage Month celebration sponsored by the Office of Campus Diversity.

A graduate of Harvard University, Navarrette is the author of A Darker Shade of Crimson: Odyssey of a Harvard Chicano, which was published in 1993 by Bantam Books. Navarrette has published more than 200 editorials and essays in newspapers and magazines nationwide. His work appeared regularly in the Sunday "Opinion" section of the Los Angeles Times, as well as in the Chicago Tribune, Sacramento Bee and Fresno Bee. He has also written for Hispanic, Change, Swing, Si and Latina magazines.
