WILMINGTON -- The UNCW Department of Music presents the first concert in the 2000-2001 Artist Recital Series at 8 p.m. on October 31 in Kenan Auditorium.

The lecture-recital will feature the renowned cello/pianist duo Florian Kitt and Rita Medjimorec. Austrian cellist Florian Kitt has appeared worldwide as a soloist with many leading orchestras and conductors and holds a professorship at the University in Graz. Pianist Rita Medjimorec graduated from the Hochschule Mozarteum in Salzburg and teaches at the Hochschule f¸r Musik in Graz and the University for Music in Vienna. The duo has performed together since 1988 with recitals and lectures in many parts of the world, championing both standard and contemporary repertoire written especially for them. Their program will include selections by Schubert and Strauss, as well as Austrian composers Erich Urbanner and Gerd K¸hr.

In addition, the duo will also present a joint master class for the students of UNCW on Wednesday, November 1. This class will be free and open to the public, please call for details.

Tickets for individual performances are $10 general admission; $5 for UNCW faculty/staff, senior citizens and children under 12. UNCW students are admitted free with a valid ID. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and are used to support the Department of Music through scholarships for UNCW music students.
