FINNISH SCHOLAR TO SPEAK ON GLOBALIZATION

WILMINGTON, NC -- Dr. Matti Savolainen (pronounced Sav’o-lye’nen, sav rhymes with have), visiting professor of literature from the University of Oulu in Finland, will give a talk on globalization and literature at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 in Cameron Hall Auditorium (Cameron 105) on the UNCW campus.

The topic of his talk will be “CHALLENGES OF GLOBALIZATION AND THEIR RAMIFICATIONS FOR LITERARY STUDY”



Dr. Savolainen is a visiting scholar at UNC Wilmington as part of an exchange between UNCW and the University of Oulu in northern Finland. He has published extensively on popular culture, William Faulkner, William Burroughs, Edward Said, deconstruction, and other topics. He brings a unique perspective to literary studies.



Dr. Savolainen will also be available for a question-and-answer session in the University Union, Room 100B at 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10. Both appearances are free and open to the public.
