EIGHTH ANNUAL INTERCULTURAL FESTIVAL HOSTED BY UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC – The cultures and countries represented at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and in the community will be celebrated at the eighth annual Intercultural Festival from 11a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, in the Hawk’s Nest at the University Union. Food, dancing, music, traditional clothing and exhibits will showcase the rich cultural diversity of the area. The performance schedule is listed below:

11 a.m. “Port City Pipes and Drums” – Scottish music

11:35 a.m. “Port City Swedes” – Swedish folk dances

Noon “St. Nicholas Dance Group” – Greek dances

12:30 p.m. “The Healing Force” – African dance, singing, instruments and storytelling

1:05 p.m. “Miyagi Ryukyu Dance School” – Okinawan traditional dance

1:20 p.m. “Cape Fear Cultural Association of India” – Classical dance of India

1:40 p.m. “William Strickland” – Flamenco music and dance

2:15 p.m. “Lloyd Wilson” – African folk narratives by Wilmington performer and storyteller

2:45 p.m. “Italian Heritage Society” – Italian folk dances

Groups sponsoring display booths at the festival include: UNCW Japanese class, Cape Fear Cultural Association of India, Scottish Society of Wilmington, Port City Swedes, Wilmington Sister City Commission, Wilmington Chapter of the N.C. Citizens for International Understanding, UNCW Chinese Student & Scholar Association, UNCW Spanish Club, Italian Heritage Society, NC World Trade Association, St. Nicholas Greek School, Peace Corps, UNCW International Student Organization, American Red Cross, and student-sponsored booths from Thailand, Korea, Germany, France and Sierra Leone.



Foods from many different cultures will be sold. Admission is free and open to the public.
