Friday, February 02, 2001
Wilmington, NC -- For the third time in three years, the Seahawk is launching a new Internet site – and this one’s going to stay. The Seahawk is the student newspaper at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. The new site uses a state-of-the-art template provided by College Publisher, Inc., a Boston company that provides web hosting for college and university newspapers nationwide. The new site allows stories and pictures to be updated at any time by the Seahawk staff, and includes a chat room, forums to discuss UNCW events, on-line classified advertising, and a weekly poll.
“This site will allow the Seahawk to really interact with the UNCW and surrounding community, providing up-to-the-minute news and sports, along with a variety of great features and entertainment information,” said Seahawk Editor-in-Chief Thomas Ruyle. “The Seahawk staff is very excited about the new site, and we look forward to making it a big part of the campus community.”
The new site marks the second major achievement of the Seahawk this academic year. For the first time in its 52-year history, the newspaper began publishing twice-weekly in October, 2000. The Seahawk currently employs about 50 UNCW students on both a paid and volunteer basis.
The site can be found at http://www.theseahawk.org. Thomas Ruyle can be reached at 9109/962-3229.
