THE KING’S ROAD WRITERS SERIES PRESENTS ALBERT GOLDBARTH READING AT UNCW
Tuesday, February 06, 2001
WILMINGTON, NC – Poet Albert Goldbarth will read from his work at 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, in the Cameron Hall Auditorium. This free, public event is sponsored by the UNC Wilmington Creative Writing Department and La Festa. A reception and book signing will follow in the lobby. The author of more than 20 collections of poetry and essays, Goldbarth is a visiting faculty member at UNCW. He is Distinguished Professor of Humanities in the Department of English at Wichita State University. A recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation, Goldbarth’s Heaven and Earth: A Cosmology won the National Book Critics Circle Award.
According to The New York Times, Goldbarth “displays a sprawling, crazy-quilt erudition – in science and myth, history and archeology . . . One hesitates to call anything but Rabelais ‘Rabelaisian,’ but when Goldbarth is in full tilt the adjective seems apt … a terrific performance.” The Kenyon Review said “There is simply no poet like him.”
His collections of poetry include Beyond and Trouble Lovers in History: A Sequence of Poems. His latest collection of poems Saving Lives: Poems is due out in June.
Developed to offer distinguished literary events to the Wilmington community, The King’s Road Writers Series is made possible through funding from La Festa, which offers fine foods, wine, cards and stationery in Barclay Commons at the corner of Shipyard and Independence Boulevard.
