UNCW ENGLISH DEPARTMENT PRESENTS “FROM STAGE TO SCREEN” FILM SERIES

WILMINGTON – “From Stage to Screen,” a series of films based on stage plays, will be presented by the UNCW English Department on four consecutive Fridays during March and April, with faculty commentaries offered before each program. Each screening will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Morton Hall’s Bryan Auditorium, followed by a reception.March 16 – The Importance of Being Earnest, a 1952 film directed by Anthony Asquith, based on Oscar Wilde’s famously irreverent farce. Brooks Dodson will present on the Wilde play and the film.
March 23 – Much Ado About Nothing, Kenneth Branagh’s 1993 film based on William Shakespeare’s festive comedy. Shakespeare scholar Lewis Walker will present.
March 30 –Tennessee Willliams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Elia Kazan and starring Marlon Brando. Lee Schweninger will present on the play and the controversial 1951 film.
April 6 – A Soldier’s Story. Stephanie Richardson will present on Charles Fuller’s 1951 play and Norman Jewison’s 1984 film adaptation.
