LOYOLA PROFESSOR TO DISCUSS CRIME MAPPING AT UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC – Dr. Richard L. Block, professor of sociology at Loyola University, will present “Hot Spots and Street Robbery: Using Mapping Software for Crime Analysis” at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 15, in UNCW’s Cameron Hall, Room 105. This free, public event is sponsored by the university’s Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice.

Block, who has studied the relationship between crime and community for 25 years, is widely recognized for using geographic information systems (GIS) for crime analysis and database management. He worked with the Chicago Police Department to develop a computer-mapping facility to study the spatial analysis of crime patterns.
