UNCW HOSTING PANEL DISCUSSION “CUBA THEN AND NOW”
Thursday, March 08, 2001
WILMINGTON, NC – “Cuba Then and Now,” a panel discussion focusing on Cuba in the 1950s and then 40 years later, will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 15, in the UNCW Warwick Center Ballroom.Panelists for this free, public presentation are Victoria Rigsby Keiser from Boston, Mass., who has worked with that city’s Caritas Catholic Charities; Sylvia Morini Heath from Washington, D.C., whose pilgrimage to Cuba was filmed for the PBS documentary Our House in Habana; and Dr. Antonio Puente, UNCW professor of psychology.
Rather than politics, the presenters will discuss the unique nature of the Cuban people, their hardships and the differences between rural and urban life. In addition, they will talk about the status of education and health care in Cuba. This event, sponsored by the UNCW Office of International Programs and the Political Science Club, will include audio and video presentations as well as never-seen footage from Our House in Habana.
For more information, contact Dr. Puente at 910/962-3812 or the UNCW Office of International Programs at 910/962-3685.
