UNCW CONCERT BAND TO PERFORM APRIL 16

The University of North Carolina at Wilmington concert band, under the direction of Harry McLamb, will present its spring concert at 8 p.m., Monday, April 16, in Kenan Auditorium on the campus.

The first half of the concert will include four pieces by British composers. Kenneth Alford’s Army of the Nile will open the concert. Gustav Holst’s Second Suite in F for Military Band and a piece by Percy Grainger will be followed by Holst’s Mars from The Planets. After intermission, American composers will be celebrated with a performance of Morton Gould’s American Salute and Robert Hawkins’ arrangement of How the West Was Won. Included in the second half will be works by Andrew Boysen, Jr., Johnny Cowell, and Robert Jager. Cowell’s Roller Coaster is a novelty piece featuring a trumpet trio.

General admission is $5; UNCW faculty and staff, senior citizens, and children under 12, $2.50, and UNCW students free. Tickets are available the night of the performance only. For information call the Department of Music at 962-3390.
