WILMINGTON, NC – The staff of the Atlantis, the student literary and art journal at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, will celebrate the publication of its 2001 edition from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 26, at Bristol Books, 1900 Eastwood Road. This event, which is open to the public, marks the release of the annual journal. Contributing student writers whose works appear in Atlantis and a guest author will read select pieces. The Atlantis, published by a student staff under the direction of the UNCW Student Media Board, showcases previously unpublished works of art, photography, poetry and prose submitted by UNCW students. This year, the journal staff decided to focus on art and poetry, said Kristina Harmer, editor-in-chief of the Atlantis.
“Atlantis needs to find its niche in the artistic community. We produce a quality
product that is reflective of the talent at UNCW,” said Harmer.
As part of the celebration, the university’s Creative Writing Department will present the Jesse Rehder Prose Award and the Sam Ragan Poetry Award.
