RE: European delegation to visit Wilmington

Friday, June 22, 2001

A delegation of Marshall Memorial Fellows representing five European countries will arrive in Wilmington Saturday, June 23. Their four-day stay in the Port City is one stop on a nationwide trip supported by The German Marshall Fund of the United States. This fund, created in 1972 through a gift from Germany, is a permanent memorial to the Marshall Plan implemented in Europe following World War II. The fund’s mission is to deepen understanding, promote collaboration and stimulate exchanges of practical experiences between Americans and Europeans.

Faculty from UNC Wilmington, along with community representatives, will lead discussions on subjects requested by the Marshall Fellows. Session topics include civil rights, race relations, small business, city government, health care and religion in the United States. Delegation members are:

Ms. Margit Kranenburg from the Netherlands

Mr. Juan Moscoso del Prado from Spain

Mr. Romeo Florin Nicoara from Romania

Mr. Maciej Pisarski from Poland

Mr. Christian Rath from Germany

Attached is an itinerary for their Wilmington visit. UNCW will host a luncheon for the fellows at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, in the Wagoner Hall, Madeline Suite. This would be an optimal opportunity for media interviews; however, you are welcome to cover any portion of their visit.
