WILMINGTON, NC --The latest addition to UNC Wilmington’s campus needs a proper name. Chancellor James R. Leutze is asking the student body, faculty and staff for creative suggestions to title the new entrance onto campus between Lakeside and Morton Halls. He believes the opportunity to name this gateway should be given to those who walk by and see it every day.

The process of submission begins by sending an e-mail to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs containing your name, address, telephone number, your idea and why you think it would fit the structure. The e-mail address is student_info@uncwil.edu.

Ideas can also be submitted in the chancellor’s suggestion boxes at the entrance of Randall Library and in the Warwick Center by the entrance to the game room. Submission forms will be available at the boxes. The deadline for all submissions is 5 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10. As an incentive to participate in this brainstorming event, the UNCW bookstore is funding a $100 gift certificate to the campus bookstore for the winning submission.

After all the names have been collected, a committee will review them and make a recommendation to the chancellor and senior officers who will forward their preference to the UNCW Board of Trustees for final approval. If the winning entry was submitted by more than one person, a drawing among those entrants will be held to determine the winner.

Participation from the whole campus is needed in order for this to be successful. The gateway is a source of pride for the Seahawks, and it should be a privilege to contribute your ideas on its behalf. If your title is picked for the new architecture, then you and your submission will become a part of UNC Wilmington’s history.
