Friday, October 26, 2001

Please be reminded of the golden anniversary luncheon celebration coming up for Girls Incorporated of Wilmington from noon to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30 at the Warwick Center ballroom on the campus of UNC Wilmington. Media are invited to join us for lunch and cover the event. Please call me at 910/962-3171 to RSVP for lunch.

You are also invited to meet and interview featured speaker Joyce Roché, a former Avon executive who early this year became president and CEO of national Girls Incorporated. Also participating in the media availability will be actress and author Barbara Feldon, best known as “99,” the secret agent on the TV series Get Smart who is a passionate supporter of Girls Inc. Another supporter of womens’ and girls’ issues is star of Broadway and television Linda Lavin who resides in Wilmington and New York City. Ms. Lavin will take part in the afternoon’s program as well as the media opportunity.

Girls Incorporated of Wilmington is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that provides informal education after school and in summer camps to more than 650 girls aged four to 18, many from low-income families. Its motto is “Inspiring all girls to be Strong, Smart, & Bold.”

Nationally, Girls Incorporated has 1,000 program sites located in more than 134 cities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. There are seven Girls Incorporated affiliates in North Carolina.

For your information, I am sending brief bios on Ms. Lavin and Ms. Feldon. Biography on Joyce Roché can be found at http://www.girlsinc.org/ic/page.php?id=2.2.4.
