UNC WILMINGTON HOSTING FRENCH FILM SERIES

WILMINGTON, NC – The UNC Wilmington Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures is sponsoring a French film series on Monday evenings through Dec. 10. Screenings, which are free and open to the public, are set for 7 p.m. in Morton Hall, Bryan Auditorium. The schedule of films is listed below.

Oct. 29

"Sans toit ni loi"

Directed by Agnes Varda, this 1985 film is a documentary-style portrait of a homeless woman’s search for acceptance.

Nov. 5

"37,2 le matin"

Adapted from a novel by Philippe Dijan, this romance examines a young man’s involvement with the wild and unpredictable Betty, whom he continues to love as she goes slowly insane. Jean-Jacques Beneix directed this 1986 film. It is rated “R.”

Nov. 12

"Delicatessen"

Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro, this 1993 film is a dark comedy set in a vaguely post-holocaust setting. It tells the wild story of a group of strange characters living in an apartment building.

Nov. 26

"Les visiteursl"

This comedy, directed by Jean-Marie Poire, tells the hilarious story of a medieval lord and his vassal, who through a magician's mistake, end up in France in the 1990s.

Dec. 3

"La haine"

Directed by Mathieu Kassovitz, this 1995 documentary-style work is a portrait of three young men in the disaffected Parisian suburbs. The film, shot in black-and-white, won Kassovitz the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

Dec. 10

"Irma Vep"

A quirky, postmodern comedy/drama about a down-and-out director who decides to shoot a remake of Louis Feuillade’s silent film classic "Les vampires." Olivier Assayas directed this 1996 film.
