UPCOMING UNCW LECTURES FOCUS ON PIRACY AND FILMMAKING

WILMINGTON, NC – The University of North Carolina at Wilmington will host the following two lectures:

Thursday, Nov. 8

“Terrorists of the High Seas: Piracy During Its Golden Age,” 7 p.m. UNCW’s Randall Library Auditorium. Free.

Dr. William McCarthy, UNCW professor of history, and Richard Lawrence from North Carolina’s Underwater Archaeology Unit at Fort Fisher are featured speakers.

Friday, Nov. 9

Filmmaker Jerry Ziesmer will discuss his work at 2 p.m. in UNCW’s Morton Hall, Bryan Auditorium. Free.

Ziesmer served as associate producer and first assistant director, respectively, on the Cameron Crowe films Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire. He also worked on Apocalypse Now directed by Francis Ford Coppola and Steven Spielberg’s 1941. This event is part of the Movie Makers Lecture Series sponsored by the UNCW Film Studies Program.
