Thursday, January 31, 2002

WILMINGTON, NC – UNC Wilmington Cameron School of Business associate dean Rebecca Porterfield was appointed associate vice chancellor for academic affairs effective July 1. She will succeed Dr. Melton McLaurin.

“Dr. Porterfield was selected after an extremely competitive internal search,” said Dr. John Cavanaugh, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at UNCW. “Her broad experience as a faculty member, chair and associate dean has prepared her for the duties and responsibilities of this office, and her efforts in distance education and international programs are excellent background for major initiatives in these areas.”

Dr. Porterfield said she was “very honored to have been chosen for this position, and I am excited about the new opportunities and challenges ahead.”

Before assuming duties as associate dean of the business school, Porterfield was chair of the Department of Management and Marketing in the Cameron School of Business. In 1998, Porterfield helped develop UNCW’s international business program which involves a transatlantic alliance with four European business schools and two other U.S. business schools. Prior to joining the Cameron faculty in 1991, Porterfield was on the faculty at Hofstra University in New York and during a 15-year period held a variety of analyst and management positions with several corporations.
