UNCW Professor Wins Fulbright Scholarship

By: Elissa Garriss, PR InternWILMINGTON, NC – Dr. Barry Salwen, assistant professor of music at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, received a Fulbright Scholarship to teach at the State Music Academy in Freiburg, Germany, from mid-April to mid-May.
The State Music Academy is a top conservatory with students attending from around the world. Salwen, who is fluent in German, will lecture on 20th-century American music, including its history, composers and noteworthy performances.
“I am very excited about this accomplishment,” stated Salwen. “I just do not know how I am going to get everything done before I leave on March 8.”
The Fulbright Scholar Program, America’s flagship educational exchange program, sends 800 scholars and professionals each year to more than 140 countries, where they lecture or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.
