UNCW Artist Recital Series to Feature Cleveland Duo and James Umble

WILMINGTON, NC – The Cleveland Duo along with saxophonist James Umble are featured performers for the 2002 UNCW Artist Recital Series scheduled for 8 p.m., Monday, March 25, in Kenan Auditorium.Violinist Stephen Warner and pianist Carolyn Gadiel Warner, who perform together as the Cleveland Duo, are members of the Cleveland Orchestra. The duo has performed over National Public Radio broadcasts in numerous cities nationwide including Boston, New York, San Francisco and St. Louis. As artists-in-residence, the two have conducted master classes, workshops and demonstrations at several North American universities including the Mannes College of Music in New York City and the University of Toronto.
James Umble is associate professor of music at Youngstown State University’s Dana School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in performance from Susquehanna University and a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan as well as first prize in saxophone performance from the National Conservatory of Music, Bourdeaux, France. Umble studied in France with famed saxophonist Jean-Marie Londeix and authored Jean-Marie Londeix, Master of the Modern Saxophone published in June 2000 by Roncorp Music Publishers.
This trio of performers, who are considered pioneers in chamber music, will also conduct the lecture/demonstration “Unexpected Instrumentation” at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, in Kenan Auditorium.
Tickets to the Monday evening performance are $10, $5 for UNCW faculty and staff. UNCW students admitted free with valid ID. The Tuesday lecture/demonstration for students is free and open to the public.
