UNCW Chancellor Leutze Announces Resignation of Board of Trustee Member

Wilmington- UNCW Chancellor James R. Leutze announced the resignation of Margaret B. Dardess, Board of Trustee member at UNC Wilmington. Dr. Dardess had been a member of the board since June 1997 and was chair of the Board of Trustees from June 2000 through June 2001. She served on several UNCW committees, including, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Long Range Planning.Dr. Dardess recently accepted the position of associate dean for administration in the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. State law prohibits employees of state agencies from being university trustees or members of the UNC Board of Governors. Dr. Dardess retired from GlaxoSmithKline Inc. in December 2001, where she was senior vice president of corporate affairs.
She has served as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board of the University of NC School of Public Health and as Board of Trustee member at Meredith College. Dr. Dardess is currently a member of the North Carolina Economics Development Board and has served as a member of North Carolina Governor’s Business Council on the Arts and Humanities, the Board of Directors of Epilepsy Foundation of America and the Triangle Community Foundation. She was also the chair of the public affairs section of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and of the North Carolina Center for Public Policy.
Dr. Dardess holds a bachelor of art degree in history form Connecticut College in New London. She also holds a master of arts and doctoral degrees in Japanese history form Columbia University in New York City and a law degree from the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
