WILMINGTON -- With the anticipated receipt of $108 million in Higher Education Facilities Act bond money and approximately $40 million in other construction funds, UNCW is actively engaged in campus renovation and building. To address plans for upcoming projects and processes involved with contracting, sub-contracting and supply support for bond issue and other projects, UNCW is holding a workshop and networking opportunity called DOING BUSINESS WITH UNCW – CONSTRUCTION from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 13, in Dobo Hall.

“We were very encouraged by having more than 75 people participate in our first DOING BUSINESS WITH UNCW information session that was presented on Feb. 15. We developed this April 13th workshop and networking session to focus on construction,” said Edward R. Davis, the university’s associate vice chancellor for facilities.

Mary E. Forsythe, director of UNCW’s Purchasing Department and Historically Underutilized Business liaison officer, added, “Through improved communication, UNCW is working to better inform the community, and involve minorities as well as small businesses that may not be so comfortable with our processes,”she added.

The workshop will offer an overview of the university’s construction program, bidding and selection processes as well as changes in state law that affect construction. In addition, construction managers will be on site to discuss three upcoming projects: General Classroom Building, Creative Arts Academic Classroom Building, and 263-Bed Student Residence Hall.

During the workshop, the university’s HUB plan will be reviewed and discussed to better provide opportunities to qualified contractors. Vendor registration on the state’s Interactive Purchasing System (IPS) will be encouraged and assistance will be given as needed.

Workshop pre-registration is strongly encouraged by April 11 to get a count for the free breakfast and provide adequate space. Call (910) 962-3158 to register.
