Wilmington, N.C.- UNC Wilmington is proud to welcome Allen Rippy Sr. to its Board of Trustees. Appointed by the UNC Board of Governors to a three-year term ending in 2005, he was sworn in April 1 by Superior Court Judge W. Allen Cobb Jr.

Active in the community, Rippy is a member on the board of directors of the Cooperative Bank and the Wrightsville Beach Association. He was also on the UNCW Foundation and the board of directors of the YMCA and Cape Fear Academy.



Rippy, a Wilmington native, received a bachelor’s degree from UNC Chapel Hill in 1973. Following graduation, he joined his family’s automotive business, which owns and operates Saturn of Wilmington, Cadillac of Wilmington and Wilmington Mitsubishi. He was named vice president in 1994. Rippy is also a managing partner of Autopark Associates.

Rippy was appointed to the seat vacated by Harry E. Payne Jr., who resigned to take the position as chair of the N.C. Employment Security Commission.
