WILMINGTON, NC -- UNCW’s University Union Art Exhibit Series, sponsored by the Campus Activities and Involvement Center, will display “Spiritual Vibrational Awakening and Insight into Self” Sunday, Aug. 12, through Monday, Sept. 30, in the University Union Living Room. The exhibit features works by local artist and healer Patricia (Lordés) Palmer.A Meet the Artist reception is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, at the display with a presentation by the artist starting at 5:30 p.m. These events are free and open to the public. Limited edition prints of Palmer’s work will be on sale at a 40 percent discount.
“Spiritual Vibrational Awakening and Insight into Self” demonstrates an attempt to draw both from my past and present experiences to offer a type of artistic therapy for each individual mentally, physically and spiritually, said Palmer. Her work is about “empowering people to make a positive difference in themselves, their communities and the world.” She added that spirituality, nature, color and humanity are the major sources of inspiration for her paintings.
According to Palmer, the precise combination and placement of colors, patterns, designs and symbols create a form of “vibrational” medicine providing feelings of peace, relaxation, uplift and comfort to the viewer. One does not need to understand it to receive its benefit, or rather experience it, said Palmer.
Known as “Ancient One,” Palmer is a spiritual artist, counselor and author. She is also certified in numerous healing alternatives such as Reiki Master/Teacher, clinical and medical hypnotherapist, lymphologist and spiritual healer. These backgrounds are reflected throughout her art, writing, and teaching.
The UNCW University Union is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturdays, and 1 to 11 p.m., Sundays. For more information, contact Shannon Hooker, Campus Activities and Involvement Center, at 910/962-3827 or visit the Web site www.uncw.edu/stuaff/arts.
