Annual UNCW Poetry Slam Scheduled; Registration Open to 40 Authors

WILMINGTON, NC – Poetry Slam, an annual event sponsored by the Watson School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, will be held at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Water Street Restaurant, 5 South Water Street.

This contest, which offers $500 in cash prizes for first through sixth place, is limited to 40 poets. Original works written by the performing author can be read. Poets will be allowed five minutes for their performances.

Admission to the Oct. 29 event is free. In addition to the poetry readings, there will be performances by Spanish guitarist William “Paco” Strickland, blues artists Rose and Charlie Lucas, and jazz musician Benny Hill. The UNCW College of Arts and Sciences and the Division for Public Service and Continuing Studies are cosponsors of this event.
