Dr. David Bewley-Taylor, will lecture on “The American Crusade: The Internationalization of Drug Prohibition” at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept.12, in UNCW’s Morton Hall, Room 100.

His lecture will focus on how the United States is at the forefront of international drug control. A vast majority of world states are members of what Bewley-Taylor calls the “global drug prohibition regime.” He said, “These states prohibit the use of certain drugs for anything other that medical and scientific purposes.”

A lecturer at the University of Wales, Swansea, Bewley-Taylor also studied at the Harry S. Truman Library under a research scholarship. He has written extensively on the U.S. and trans-national drug policy and is an occasional commentator on American politics for BBC Radio Wales.

This free, public lecture is sponsored by the Office of International Programs and the Departments of Sociology and Criminal Justice and Psychology.
