UNC Wilmington Science/Humanities Faculty to Explore Happiness

Tuesday, October 29, 2002

WILMINGTON, NC – It has been said that you can’t buy happiness. Maybe, you can’t even define it. But a group of faculty members from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington will try in the panel discussion “What is Happiness? How Much is Enough?” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the university’s Randall Library Auditorium.

According to Dr. William McCarthy, coordinator of the Science, Humanities and Society Program and event organizer, “This is just the sort of topic that should generate a thought-provoking discussion as panelists and audience members explore happiness from physiological, psychological, cultural, historical and economic perspectives.”

The panelists represent academic disciplines in the sciences and humanities. They are Midori Albert, associate professor of anthropology; Tim Ballard, associate professor of biological sciences; Gregory Bechtel, professor of nursing; Carrie Clements, assistant professor of psychology; Sue Combs, associate professor of health, physical education and recreation; Ken Diehl, director of pre-engineering; Chris Dumas, assistant professor of economics; Don Habibi, professor of philosophy and religion; Virginia Steward, associate professor of history; and Patricia Turrisi, director of the Center for Teaching Excellence.

This free, public event is cosponsored by the UNCW Science, Humanities and Society Program, the Center for Teaching Excellence and the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
